Backswing-Forward Swing. Which is more important?

BACKSWING OR FORWARD SWING. WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT?

Have you noticed how golfers check out their Backswing Techniques in the reflection of the Pro Shop window? I wonder why because we do not hit the ball in the backswing!

The ball reacts to the face of the golf club. The flight of the ball, the direction in which it travels and the way it spins are all influenced by how the club travels through the ball.

Improve your swing [and control of the ball] by practicing your swing in reverse i.e. starting from a “World Class Finish” position. The torso will look to the left and the belt-buckle to the target. There will be an impression of weight on the left foot [right-handers] and the club will be sitting behind the head parallel to the ground.

From this position allow the arms and club to swing downwards and backwards wherever they wish to go and hold the end-of-backswing position to feel where things are. Then swing the club directly to that “World Class Finish” once again.

Knowing to where you are going to swing the club is more important than attempting to achieve a “good backswing”. Ask John Daly, Jim Furyk, Eammon D’Arcy and Laura Davies to name only a few; great golfers all!

Make it a goal to swing to the finish without any negative backswing thoughts and your ball will fly higher, further and straighter than before.

If you wish to know more let me know.
